The National Green Theatres Programme

The National Green Theatres Programme aims to embed sustainability into all clinical and managerial decisions. Launched as a response to the environmental challenges faced globally, this programme promotes eco-friendly initiatives within surgical theatres across NHS Scotland. The programme advocates for energy efficiency, waste reduction, and the use of renewable resources in theatres. This may also include construction, design, and practice change/management.

By encouraging theatres to adopt sustainable practices, the National Green Theatres Programme seeks to reduce the carbon footprint across NHS Scotland. Additionally, collaboration between theatre colleagues, subject matter experts, and senior management to develop guidelines for sustainable theatre practices is paramount to ensure the continued success of the programme.
