Many components of the perioperative care pathway already exist within the NHS
There are many such examples across the NHS, as shared with us by local teams, specialist societies, and other individuals. As we develop this concept, we need to find the best examples of existing care and learn from these successes.
Examples of successful delivery of perioperative care
From contemplation of surgery until full recovery, the perioperative care team can ensure that the patient’s care is coordinated between all the relevant experts, offering additional evidence-based treatments as and when appropriate.
Whilst there is a great deal of work to be done to ensure we can offer the whole pathway of care to every eligible patient, there are numerous examples of how parts of this system will work already in action across the NHS. Click the links below to read our case studies on how colleagues around the country have implemented perioperative care solutions.
While we cannot endorse these solutions, we would encourage our colleagues to aspire to implementing systems appropriate to populations and feasible within current local infrastructures.
Please note we cannot provide contact details for all the authors of submitted case studies on our website.
